Dalvin Cook Injury: WTF Do We Do Now?

Dalvin Cook Injury Report:

Dalvin Cook is injured. I stand for you a broken man, listening to Natalie Imbruglia on repeat as I weep into my never-ending abyss of what-could-have-been.

I just want to give him a hug

I’m all out of faith

This is how I feel

I’m cold and I am shamed

Lying naked on the floor.

We can’t shower cry the season away. We have to scour the waiver wire to pick up the pieces. My strategy is going to be simple: bump up #HandcuffSzn. Normally by about week 6, I try to move some of my depth pieces for high-upside handcuffs. Players who I know I wouldn’t start in my fantasy playoffs get tossed on the wire for RBs with 3-down potential.

Players We Aren’t Picking Up:

Jerick McKinnon | RB | Minnesota Vikings

He’s an athletic freak and will have some PPR value but he has terrible vision. I can’t see a situation where McKinnon takes over a 3-down role.

Latavius Murray | RB | Minnesota Vikings

Do you see a theme here? The Vikings running game is fucked. That’s the theme. Murray will have some potentially high-scoring weeks due to touchdown upside, however, the predictability of such weeks will practically be zero. Consequently, he will be unusable in the fantasy playoffs.

Players We Are Picking Up:

D’onta Foreman | RB | Houston Texans

I think that barring injury Lamar Miller keeps his job. But Foreman has been good when spelling Miller. Should Miller go down, Foreman would step into being a top-15 back.

Alfred Morris | RB | Dallas Cowboys

Alfred Morris showed he still had some pep in his step on Sunday breaking off a 70+ yard run. If anything were to happen to Zeke, Morris would be a league-winner.

Austin Ekeler | RB | Chargers

I’m not sure Ekeler has the size to be the typical bell cow RB but I am sure Branden Oliver doesn’t. Ekeler is a superb athlete that could step in if Melvin Gordon were to go down.

Elijah McGuire | RB | NY Jets

A lot of sharp dynasty people (Addison Hayes, @AmazeHayes_DFF, is the first to come to mind) have been pounding the drum for McGuire and Sunday we saw why. He was stellar in his 19 snaps. Can we expect him to get touches on 63% of his snaps going forward? No. The Jets coaching staff looked for ways to get him involved in a close game which says something about how they feel about his abilities.

Aaron Jones | RB | Green Bay Packers

This is another superb athlete that doesn’t get enough love. He has Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams to deal with but he looked good on Thursday. If things break the right way, Jones could be a bell cow going into the fantasy playoffs.

Malcolm Brown | RB | LA Rams

Could Malcom Brown step in for Todd Gurley if an injury were to occur?

My favorite part of this season has been how Sean McVay has completely shit all over any shred of the legacy that Jeff Fisher may have hoped to hang onto. McVay has gotten Todd Gurley involved in the passing game which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone with eyes. Gurley was a great receiver in college. If anything were to happen to Gurley, I think Brown would step right into the exact role that Gurley is currently in. Sure, the efficiency will likely come down but the RB1 potential is clear in McVay’s offense.

Wayne Gallman | RB | NY Giants

I hate disparaging players. But Paul Perkins is a bum. Shane Vereen can’t run between the tackles. Orleans Darkwa is a special teamer. Gallman is a bit of a plodder but he runs with much more authority than Perkins. The Giants are on a one-way trip to Shitsville so they might as well see what they have in Gallman as the season spirals down the toilet.
