Hottest Plays of the Week: Week 8 Plays

Below are the best values that of the DraftKings Main Slate.

Quarterbacks

Carson Wentz

Coming off a 4 TD performance in primetime, Wentz is expected to be one of the highest owned players on the main slate. I currently have him as my QB1 on the weekend but keep an eye toward the weather in this game. There is a possibility of heavy rain and 20 mph winds which could make it tough for Wentz to hit value.

Cam Newton

The Bucs defense is a train wreck that will be made even worse by Vernon Hargreaves moving back outside. Robert McClain and will struggle against Panthers WRs and Cam will have a huge day.

Kirk Cousins

Cousins has owned the Cowboys to the tune of averaging over 300 yards and 2 TDs against them. At his price point, I expect Cousins to hit 4X value, making him one of the hottest plays of Week 8.

Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor has been a magician at home since taking over as Bills QB. In the 18 home games he has played, Tyrod averages 23.3 points/game. His rushing yards per game at home (44 yards) is equivalent to an extra passing TD. His high floor makes him one of the hottest plays of Week 8.

Running Backs

Mark Ingram

Over the last 2 games, since Adrian Peterson was shipped out of town, Ingram has averaged 28 touches a game. That is good for third in the NFL over that period. Ingram has been efficient with those touches, as well. His .91 PPR/touch ranks 1st in the top ten touch recipients.  Ingram should be considered one of the hottest plays of Week 8.

Chris Thompson

We keep waiting for a production cliff with Thompson but it hasn’t come yet. Washington continues to try and run but their failure on first down runs has led to Thompson’s utilization. This week, I expect Thompson to remain productive as the NFL’s best third-down back.

Doug Martin

If the Bucs want to win this week, they are going to have to ride Doug Martin. Their defense is in such bad shape that I expect 20+ touches out of Martin to shorten the game.

Joe Mixon

This is Joe Mixon chalk week. Positive game script. Squeaky wheel. One of the hottest plays of Week 8.

Matt Forte

Matt Forte has been quietly productive this season when healthy. This week, Forte will get a Falcons D that just gave up 162 yards on the ground to about 23 different Patriots RBs. The Falcons are giving up 28.8 aFPA (schedule adjusted fantasy points) to opposing RBs. I think Forte could crush value this week.

Wide Receivers

Keenan Allen

The Patriots give up 37.6 aFPA to opposing WRs. Allen, who runs 41-percent of his routes out of the slot, will get an especially easy matchup. I wrote earlier in the week about Allen’s expected TD regression and I think he gets a couple this week. Psst.. Buy Allen in redraft.

Keenan Allen will crush Eric Rowe this weekend.

Michael Crabtree

I’m hoping that inexperienced players flood their Raiders ownership to Amari Cooper, leaving me with an under-owned WR1. This week, EJ Gaines is out for the Bills which will significantly hurt their pass defense. Crab is one of the hottest plays of Week 8 so load in your lineups.

Pierre Garcon

This play is a weather-dependent play like Wentz. If the weather breaks right, Garcon has top-ten WR potential this week. Garcon has averaged 9 TGT/game on the season and could see an uptick if Marquise Goodwin is out. Also, Lord Aldrick Robinson would be a viable play if Goodwin is out.

Devin Funchess

Bucs are terrible against the pass. They have twice given up great days to Deonte Thompson on the year. This week, it is Devin Funchess’ turn to beat up the undersized Bucs secondary. Funchess is in my top-20 overall WR this week.

T.Y. Hilton

When Hilton’s price drops this low, it is worth it to make a few lineups with him in them. Hilton has always been a high-variance player but Andrew Luck’s absence has exacerbated the issue.

Ted Ginn

The Saints give the majority of their touches to 4 players: Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and Ted Ginn. Ginn is the lowest priced of the quartet but could outscore them all if things break correctly. One important note is that Michael Thomas is dealing with a knee issue that could have Drew Brees looking Ginn’s way more often.

Josh Doctson

The Washington Football Team’s starting X-receiver is under 4k on DraftKings. I think this makes him one of the hottest plays of Week 8 by default.

Tight Ends

Jordan Reed

Kirk Cousins is one of the hottest plays of Week 8 because Jordan Reed is finally getting healthy. This will be Reed’s last week priced below 5k. Push him right into those lineups this week while he’s still a value.

George Kittle

Hoping right back on the Kittle wagon this week. Things went awry for the 49ers really quickly last week. Kittle takes on an Eagles team that will be adjusting to life without Jordan Hicks. They already give up 14.7 aFPA to TEs but last week after Hicks left, Washington crushed them with Reed and Davis.

Tyler Kroft

Kroft is underpriced for his usage at the TE position. He’s the best pure punt if you’re going that route.
