Waiver Wire: Week 14

Lou Sherman @loudogsports

Fantasy playoffs are starting up, so if you are in desperation mode for a pick up, look no further!

Quarterback

Gardner Minshew

Nick Foles has been benched, meaning it’s Minshew Mania again in Jacksonville. Minshew was very serviceable for fantasy, with 8 games over 200 yards and 5 games of multiple TD at the helm.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

It’s December and Fitzmagic is in the air again. Fitzpatrick has back to back games of over 25 fantasy points, and gets to face the Jets, Giants, and Bengals for the fantasy playoffs. 2 of those are revenge games.

Running back

Alexander Mattison

After Dalvin Cook left the game last night, we saw Mattison become the guy for this backfield. We’ve seen his explosiveness and ability to catch passes. He is a must add if he is still available.

Rashaad Penny

Penny showed on Monday night that he has plenty of value in this Seattle offense, even when Carson is healthy. Carson had a concussion scare and has had fumble problems all season, so Penny should not be on the waivers

Patrick Laird

Kalen Ballage got injured this week, so the Dolphins are finally forced to keep him off the field. The backfield split 14-3 in favor to Laird over Gaskin. Laird has shown over the past few weeks that he has the ability to catch passes, and has been trusted by Ryan Fitzpatrick to do so. Playing Laird is no longer a troll move.

Tony Pollard/Gus Edwards

There’s no better time to pick up a handcuff than for your playoff run, as a backup plan for if and when you might get an injury to your main RB.

Wide Receiver

Russell Gage

If Julio Jones misses this game again, Gage has a lot of flex appeal in PPR formats. Hooper is expected to be back, but if he misses as well, Gage is in line to see another 7+ targets versus Carolina.

Allen Lazard

Lazard is a bit of a boom-or-bust call, but he gets to face the Redskins, who have given up multi-TD games to similar players like Desean Jackson (8/154/2) and Taylor Gabriel (6/75/3) this year.

Marcus Johnson

Johnson is a bit of a gut call for me. His player profile picture shows some great lettuce on his head, but he also has 2 4 reception games in the last 3. Colts are riddled by injuries and if Hilton and Rogers are forced to miss again, Johnson might just be worth a shot against the Bucs defense that we try to target every week.

Tight End

Ian Thomas

Thomas might be in line to be a good play this week, as Greg Olsen left last week’s game with a concussion. Thomas saw a season high 4 targets in the game, and will be facing the leaky Falcons defense this week.

Mike Gesicki

It’s the fantasy playoffs and I’m touting all the Dolphins. Is something wrong, or do you agree that they are actually on the up and up?

Ryan Griffin

Griffin has 24 receptions over the past 6 weeks, including 4 TD. He is an active part of this offense. Herndon who?
