Week 6 Review: One Big Name

After taking a break last week to talk about the injury to Dak Prescott and what it really means, we return to some fantasy talk this week.

Really, we are going to talk about one player. And no, it is not Derek Henry. His 200 yards and two TDs were terrific, but we have seen it from him before. Instead, I want to talk a bit about a rookie WR in Minnesota who needs to be on your roster.

Justin Jefferson is a man.

Coming out of LSU, he was widely viewed as a slot receiver prospect who could not win outside. He has proved this to be wrong. In four games since moving outside, he has three games of over 100 yards. In two of them, he had over 160 yards and two TD.

When the Vikings traded Stefon Diggs to Buffalo, they hoped to get a receiver in the draft to replace him. They were gifted their new stud by the Eagles, who decided to take a speedy receiver out of TCU. A school that never produces good receivers. But such is life. With the next pick, Minnesota was able to grab Jefferson, and they are off and running.

Although Minnesota has been terrible this season, Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson have been stellar. Thielen was the WR 1 heading into Week 6, and with his monster last month, Jefferson is nipping at his heels.

There is an average of three WR duos who both finish top 24 for fantasy each year. For the 2020 season, the pair of Thielen and Jefferson is likely to be one. And maybe the highest amongst all of them with the injury concerns of Julio Jones and the injury to Prescott affecting others. With the defense in Minnesota looking bad and not improving soon, the offense will need to take over games. The ball will be in the air a lot. Kirk Cousins, for all of his faults, is exceptionally accurate as a passer. He will be able to find his WR down the field and on short routes. Both of which either of these receivers are well prepared to handle.

I am not going to say the Vikings will make the playoffs or compete for the NFC North. I am confident in saying that coming out of the team’s Week 7 bye, I can see Jefferson being a top 10 receiver for the rest of the season. So, if someone in your league needs a bye week fill-in for this week, send a fair offer over. You will be happy you did if you end up landing Jefferson for the final half of the season.
